1. Build it yourself with a free builder
Pick a template, write the words, add your photos and publish. Free plans normally put you on the builder’s own address and show its adverts until you upgrade.
A practical guide
You can get a website without paying for it up front. There are five realistic ways to do it, and each one costs you something different: adverts, your evenings, a long web address or a small monthly fee once it’s live. Here’s how each works, step by step.
The short answerThe five ways are a free website builder, a free Google Business Profile, a social media page, a friend or student who builds it for you, or free website design where you only pay once it’s live. Only the last two give you a proper website on your own web address without doing it all yourself.
Your options
Each is genuinely free to start. What changes is who does the work, whose name is on it, and what it costs to keep.
Pick a template, write the words, add your photos and publish. Free plans normally put you on the builder’s own address and show its adverts until you upgrade.
Not a website, but free and worth doing whatever else you choose: your hours, phone number, reviews and directions in Google Search and Maps.
Quick to set up and free. You don’t own it, though, you can’t change how it looks, and some visitors are asked to log in before they can see everything.
Free help is generous, but ask who will host it, who fixes it when it breaks, and whose name the web address is in before anything is built.
A designer builds the whole website for you at no cost. You see the finished thing first, and only pay a monthly fee if you decide to put it online. This is what Webfreezee does.
Free plan details are from Small Business UK and Fasthosts, checked on 7 October 2026.
Side by side
The questions that matter most for a business: is it on your own address, does it carry someone else’s adverts, how long does it take you, and what does it cost to keep?
| Route | Your own web address | Adverts on it | Your time | To keep it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free builder, free plan | No, the builder’s address | Usually | Many evenings | £0, or a paid plan to remove the limits |
| Google Business Profile | Not a website | No | An hour or so | £0 |
| Social media page | No | The platform’s | An hour or so | £0 |
| Friend or student | Depends who registers it | No | Some | Hosting, plus whoever fixes it |
| Webfreezee | Yes | No | A few questions, then check it over | £20 a month, only once it’s live |
Registering a web address is paid separately with every route that gives you one.
Step by step
From first question to a live website, and the only point at which you pay.
Your business name, what you do, the area you cover and what you’d like the website to do. It takes a couple of minutes, and there’s no card to enter.
Photos of your work, your logo if you have one, and any words you like. No photos or logo yet? We can work with that.
Your private progress page shows the real website as we build it. We normally send your website within 24 hours.
Look at it on your phone and computer and tell us what to change. Only go live if you’re pleased. If you’re not, you simply don’t, and owe nothing.
Before you start
Gathering these first makes any website quicker to build and better at bringing in work.
The services people actually search for, like “boiler repair” or “oven cleaning”, not just your trade name.
The towns and villages you cover. Local searches are where small businesses win.
Your work, your van, your team. Real photos earn more trust than stock pictures, and a phone camera is fine.
Phone, email, WhatsApp, or a form. Pick the ones you’ll actually answer quickly.
Something short, like yourbusiness.co.uk. Check it’s free before you print it on anything.
Watch out
Who owns the web address? It should be registered in your name. If someone else holds it, moving your website later can be hard. With us it’s yours.
Is there a contract? Some “free” websites come with a long contract or an exit fee. Ours has no contract: you can cancel the monthly plan whenever you like.
What happens if you leave? Your website belongs to you: the words, photos, logo and other content you give us, the design we create for your business, and your web address when it’s registered in your name. After 12 months of paid service we’ll give you a full copy for free.
Who keeps it working? Websites need updates, security fixes and the odd change. On a free builder that’s you. On ours it’s included in the £20 a month, with real people to ask.
Will people find it? A website nobody finds isn’t much use. Nobody can honestly promise you’ll be top of Google, but you’ll start on solid ground, and we keep helping after you go live.

Questions
Can’t see your question? Email hello@webfreezee.co.uk.
Yes. You can build one yourself on a free builder, or have one designed and built for you for free. The difference is who does the work, and whether it’s on your own web address without adverts.
Having it built for you. With Webfreezee you answer a few questions and check the finished website over. You only pay £20 a month if you decide to put it live.
You don’t have to have one, but it looks more trustworthy, it’s easier to remember and it’s yours to keep if you ever move. Registering one is paid separately to the company you register it with.
It can be, if it’s on your own address, works well on phones, says clearly what you do and where, and makes it easy to get in touch. Those matter far more than what it cost.
Nobody can honestly promise you’ll be top of Google, but you’ll start on solid ground, and we keep helping after you go live. A free Google Business Profile alongside your website helps too.
With a free builder, as long as you can give it. With us, it’s quick: we normally send your website within 24 hours.
Tell us what to change and we’ll change it. If it still isn’t right, you don’t go live and you don’t pay anything.
