The basics

What is a pay monthly website?

Instead of paying a big bill for a website up front, you pay a monthly fee that covers the design, keeping it online and looking after it. It spreads the cost and means someone else handles the technical side.

The catch with many pay monthly deals is in the small print: a setup fee, a minimum term of a year or more, or a website you can’t take with you if you leave. So it pays to check before you sign. Redefineweb’s guide explains the common traps.

Before you sign

Six things to check before you sign

Ask every provider these. Here are our answers.

  1. Is there a minimum term?

No. There’s no fixed-term contract. Cancel whenever you like and your website stays online until the end of the month you’ve paid for.

  2. Is there a setup fee?

No. No setup fee, no design fee and no deposit. You pay nothing until you choose to go live.

  3. Who owns the design and the web address?

You do: the design we create for your business, your words and photos, and your web address when it’s registered in your name.

  4. What changes are included?

Change words and photos yourself in your Portal whenever you like, or ask us. Everyday changes are included; bigger new features may be quoted separately.

  5. What happens if you leave?

After 12 months of paid service you get a full copy of your website free, plus help moving your web address. Before then, you can take a copy by paying the rest of your first 12 months.

  6. Do you need my card details up front?

No. You see your finished website first. Payment only starts if you choose to go live.

Questions

Questions

How much is a pay monthly website?

UK providers advertise anything from about £30 to £500 a month, depending on what’s included. Ours is £20 a month once your website is live, and the design and build are free.

Is a pay monthly website worth it?

It is when the price is fair, there’s no long contract and you can take your website with you. Then you get a professionally built website without a big bill up front, and someone looking after it.

Is there a minimum contract?

Not with us. You can cancel at any time.

Do I own a pay monthly website?

It depends on the provider, so check. With us, yes: your website is yours, and after 12 months of paid service you can take a full copy for free.

What happens if I stop paying?

You can cancel whenever you like. Your website stays online until the end of the month you’ve paid for, then comes off our hosting. If a payment fails, we send reminders and give you 30 days to sort it out before anything is paused, and nothing is deleted.

A fair monthly price, and the design is free.

Tell us about your business. We’ll design and build your website, and you only start paying £20 a month once you’re happy and it’s live.
