New Martial Arts Club Website for JU JITSU UK in Norfolk & Suffolk

JU JITSU UK, a Ju Jitsu club with classes across Norfolk and Suffolk, now has a website with a class finder, free trial requests, online payments and a kit shop. Here's what we built and why, with screenshots.

JU JITSU UK teaches Ju Jitsu to children, teenagers and adults across Norfolk and Suffolk, with classes in Attleborough, Brandon (Hockwold), Dereham, Thetford and Watton. Its founder and chief instructor, Trevor Steward Shihan, has been teaching in Thetford since 2001. Now JU JITSU UK has a website that does the club's admin as well as its introductions.

Here is what we built, with screenshots from the live site, and why each part is there.

Say who it's for, and where, in the first screen

A parent looking for a martial arts class for their child wants to know three things: is it for my child's age, is it near me, and can we try it first? The homepage answers all three before you scroll. The headline reads "Ju Jitsu for children, teens and adults, close to home", the line under it names every town, and a badge says the first lessons are free: four for children, two for teens and adults.

The background is the club's own photos and film from real classes, not stock images. A "Watch the film" button plays a short video of a class, so families can see what training looks like before they come.

A class finder instead of a timetable to decode

Eleven classes a week across five towns, split by age group, is a lot to put in a table. So the homepage has a class finder: choose a town and who is training (infants, juniors, or teens and adults), and it shows only the classes that fit, with the day, the time and the ages.

Every class has its own "Request a trial" button, which opens the trial form with that club and session already chosen.

A free trial form that asks what an instructor needs

Most trial requests are made by parents, for a child. The form is built around that: the child's name and age, whether they have any health conditions, injuries or additional needs the instructor should know about, and whether the parent is happy for photos taken at classes to be shared. Nobody has to remember to mention it on the night.

The page then explains what happens next: the club confirms the session, says what to wear and bring and where to go, and after the free lessons the family decides whether to join.

A page for every town

People search for "martial arts Thetford" or "kids Ju Jitsu Dereham", so each club has its own page with its venue and address, a map link, its weekly timetable and a trial button for each class. The Thetford page explains that it is the club's longest-running, teaching since 2001.

Pay for training, memberships and gradings online

Clubs spend a lot of time collecting money: monthly training, yearly memberships, grading fees. On the new website, members pay online. Children's training is £29 a month and adult training £30; memberships are £20 a year for a child, £30 for an adult and £25 for a family; a belt examination is £25, paid when the instructor says the student is ready.

Payments go through GoCardless, from the member's bank, on GoCardless's own secure page. The receipt comes by email, and every payment shows in the member's account on the website.

A kit shop for uniforms and club clothing

New students need a uniform, and plenty of families want the club hoodie too. The shop sells the official children's and adult uniforms, summer kit, hoodies, T-shirts, polo shirts and joggers, each with its sizes and a short description. Orders arrive with the club and show in the member's account, just like payments.

Show parents the club is safe

For a club that teaches children from the age of four, safeguarding is not a footnote. The safeguarding page names the club's safeguarding officer, gives an independent route to raise a concern with the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA), and explains how students with special educational needs are supported.

Underneath, the club's certificates are shown in full: safeguarding, insurance, first aid and its BMABA School of Excellence recognition, with a link to check them with BMABA.

Events, gradings and awards

A club is more than its weekly classes. The events page lists the next gradings and where they are, explains how a grading works in three steps, and shows what is coming up, from presentation evenings to the JU JITSU UK Open Championship. An awards page celebrates each Student of the Month, and the gallery shows life at the clubs.

Built for the phone in a parent's hand

Many parents will find the club on a phone, in a spare minute. On a phone, the class finder, the trial form and the shop all work with a thumb, and a Contact us button stays in the corner of every page.

Behind the scenes, every page has its own title and description, and the site tells Google that this is a Ju Jitsu club with clubs in five Norfolk and Suffolk towns. That gives JU JITSU UK a sound footing in local search. Rankings still take time, and we won't promise a position.

What clubs and classes can take from this

If you run a club, a class or any activity for children and adults, JU JITSU UK shows what a good website needs:

  • Say who it's for, where, and how to try it, in the first screen.
  • Let people find the right class by place and age, not by reading a timetable.
  • Ask the questions your instructors need in the trial form.
  • Take payments for fees and kit online, so you aren't chasing them.
  • Show parents how you keep everyone safe.
