New Home Bakery Website for Tracys Bakes in Clacton-on-Sea

Tracys Bakes, a home bakery in Clacton-on-Sea, now has its own website, with a build-your-own Pick & Mix box and allergens on every bake. Here's what we built and why, with screenshots.

Many people in Clacton-on-Sea will remember Tracy from Tracy's Café Bistro, which reached the No. 1 spot on TripAdvisor locally. After she sold the café, she kept baking, and Tracys Bakes was born: cakes, brownies, cheesecakes and cookies, made in her home kitchen. Now Tracys Bakes has a website of its own.

Here is what we built, with screenshots from the live site, and why each part is there.

Say what it is, where, and how to order

Someone looking for "cakes in Clacton" wants three answers fast: what can I get, is it near me, and how do I order? The homepage gives all three before you scroll. The headline reads "Fresh home bakes, any day in Clacton", the line under it explains that you order a day ahead and collect any day, and two buttons go straight to building a box or seeing the prices.

Tracy is in the hero picture herself, holding a board of her cookies. For a home bakery, the baker is the brand.

A Pick & Mix with the allergens on every bake

Tracy's best-known offer is her Pick & Mix: any 4 bakes for £12, and extras at £2.75 each. Twelve bakes are always available, from Bakewell slice to salted caramel cheesecake.

Each bake has its own illustrated card on the Pick & Mix page, with its allergens written underneath. People with allergies, or buying for someone who has them, can check before they order rather than after.

Build your box, then send it to Tracy

Ordering a mixed box by message usually means a long back-and-forth. So the Pick & Mix page has a box builder: tap four bakes, add extras if you fancy more, and the box fills up with a running total. "Send my box to Tracy" takes the order to her.

Tap four bakes and the box tells you when it's full, and what it costs.

Most people order on their phones, so on a phone the box and its price stay at the bottom of the screen while you choose: "Your box: 4, £12".

Prices with no surprises

A small bakery loses orders when people can't tell what something costs. Every price is on the website: whole cakes from £15, whole cheesecakes from £25, brownies, blondies and cookies at 6 for £15, and Tracy's homemade coconut ice at £4.50.

The homepage shows the menu at a glance, and the full menu page has everything else.

Cakes for the big days

Celebration cakes have their own page and enquiry form. Customers give the date, the occasion, how many people it's for and their ideas, and Tracy messages them to talk it through. The page also explains that vegan, gluten-free and nut-free cakes are made to order, and asks for at least 3 days' notice.

Answer the questions before they're asked

The How to order page covers what people would otherwise message about: how much notice Tracy needs, where to collect (St Johns Road, Clacton-on-Sea), delivery in the Clacton area (£2.95, or free on orders over £25) and how to pay (cash, bank transfer or card).

Tracy still posts her weekly specials on Facebook, so a banner at the top of every page links to them. The website handles what is always available; Facebook carries what's new this week.

A story people already know

The About page tells Tracy's story, from Tracy's Café Bistro to Tracys Bakes. Local customers recognise her, and new ones see the experience behind every bake.

Behind the scenes, every page has its own title and description, and the site tells Google it is a bakery in Clacton-on-Sea, with its menu and prices. That gives Tracys Bakes a sound footing in local search. Rankings still take time, and we won't promise a position.

What food businesses can take from this

If you run a bakery, café or any food business, Tracys Bakes shows what a good food website needs:

  • Say what you sell, where, and how to order, in the first screen.
  • Put every price on the page.
  • Show allergens clearly, item by item.
  • Make ordering quick on a phone.
  • Keep social media for what's new, and the website for everything else.
